Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Development and Outreach, TDA seeks a full-time consultant to fill the position of Advocacy Officer in its head office in Istanbul.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Design and implement advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns, events, activities in collaboration with management staff and other team members
  • Contribute to the development of TDA’s vision, messaging, strategies, and policies on communications and advocacy
  • In collaboration with the Head of Development and Media Associate, develop communications and advocacy tools and templates
  • In coordination with the Media Associate, extract and frame compelling information from TDA’s reports and research to be shared with stakeholders in a variety of formats (social media cards, brochures, briefs, infographics, etc.) for advocacy purposes
  • Effectively coordinate with program staff to collect and create content for communications and advocacy initiatives
  • Prepare and edit texts for news releases, feature articles, briefing notes, backgrounders, Questions & Answers (Q&A) and other materials for advocacy use in the media and distribution to the public, the media and donors
  • Work closely with the Media Associate to coordinate advocacy and social media campaigns, as well as broader communications strategies
  • Work closely with the Media Associate and Monitoring & Reporting Officer to accurately and effectively highlight TDA’s results, achievements, and research findings
  • Contribute to plans to maximize the outreach and visibility of all communications and advocacy materials across a range of platforms
  • Support the development and continuation of long-term relationships with key advocacy stakeholders, such as international, national, and local media outlets/members; representatives of national governments; international and national human rights-related organizations; and advocacy staff in partner organizations
  • In collaboration with other staff members, prepare for and represent TDA at national and international events (conferences, forums) related to TDA’s mission

Skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant academic degree in the fields of journalism, communications, political science, media, international relations, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy and communications
  • Prior experience planning and implementing advocacy campaigns
  • Excellent understanding of the (social) media landscape
  • In-depth knowledge of the Syrian context and conflict and the international and national stakeholders working to address it
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written)
